Save the Bay protects San Francisco Bay from pollution and sprawl; restores habitat; and engages and inspires more than 25,000 supporters annually. For nearly 50 years, it has fought to stop raw sewage flowing untreated into the Bay, to prevent the Peripheral Canal from draining more of the Bay’s fresh water from upstream, and to close the garbage dumps ringing the shoreline. As a result, the size of the Bay has actually increased slightly, and public shoreline access has increased from four miles in 1969 to over 200 miles today.
