The Trees That Feed Foundation plants edible fruit trees in Caribbean countries to create jobs, benefit the environment and feed local people. To date they have planted 50,000 trees in Haiti and Jamaica with plans for further expansion. The group’s Breadfruit project will foster the planting of 25,000 trees that will provide food for 100,000 to 150,000 people. The highly versatile fruit can be consumed fresh or used later as a substitute for potatoes, rice or pasta. The Foundation provides cooperating subsistence farmers with the trees, training, equipment and support for processing and drying fruit that will enable the food to last for years.
